From the Meiji period onwards, Shohaku was not highly rated but he was featured in series of articles called 'Kiso no Keifu' (Lineage of Bizarre) run in "Bijutsu Techo" in the 1970's and this triggered renewed public interest in Shohaku as an individualistic painter in the Edo period. 明治時代以降は評価が低かったが、1970年頃『美術手帖』誌の連載「奇想の系譜」で取り上げらたこと等がきっかけとなり、江戸時代絵画史に異彩を放つ個性的な画家として近年再注目されている。 |
