While there is a description of a feast admiring Japanese wisteria in "Genji Monogatari," 'Hana' (flower) had been used as a synonym for cherry blossoms by that time, so a feast admiring flowers other than cherry blossoms was not meant to be called hanami or hana no en. 『源氏物語』には藤を鑑賞する宴会についての記述もあるが、この頃には「花」はほぼ桜と同義に使われるようになっていたためか桜以外の花を観賞する宴が花見、花宴といわれることはない。 |
