The street has relatively a short history; it opened in the early Showa period in a city development program (as a city planning road) involving the layout of Kyoto Municipal Streetcar on the street, following the road expansion program which was part of Kyoto's big three projects in late Meiji period and Taisho period. 明治末期から大正期に掛けて行われた京都三大事業での道路拡張に続き、市区改正道路(都市計画道路)として、京都市電の敷設とともに昭和初期に開通した比較的歴史の浅い通りである。 |
