The 2nd Shogun Hidetada TOKUGAWA followed this procedure upon assuming the office of Shogun 2 years later in 1605, as did the 3rd Shogun Iemitsu TOKUGAWA in 1623, but the 4th Shogun Ietsuna TOKUGAWA and the later Shoguns did not.
