It is traditionally said that a couple, running a paper store in Hacchobori of Kamiya-cho near Hiroshima Castle in the Edo period, mourned the loss of their daughter and dedicated their handmade toro (or flowers) to her. 「江戸時代、広島城下・紙屋町・八丁堀の紙屋の夫婦が、娘が亡くなったのを悲しんで墓に手作りの燈籠(または花)を供えた。」とする古い言い伝えが残っている。 |
