Also called 'Bushu Daruma', the Koshigaya Daruma doll is said to have originated from a toy, previously known as okiagari koboshi, on which a doll maker in Makuri, named 'Darukichi,' painted the face of Bodhidharma in meditation during the Kyoho era in the Edo period (1716~1736). 「武州だるま」とも呼ばれ、江戸時代の享保年間(1716~1736年)に、間久里の「だる吉」という人形師が、従来あった「起き上がり小法師」という玩具に座禅を組んだ達磨大師を描いたのが起源といわれている。 |
