In the Edo period, processions were held to transport the chatsubo contained Uji tea, a special local product of the present day Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, which was to be presented to the Tokugawa Shogun family; the route taken (Tokai-do Road, Nakasen-do Road) was called the 'Chatsubo journey.' 江戸時代には、現在の京都府宇治市の名産品である宇治茶を徳川将軍家に献上するため、茶を詰めた茶壺を運ぶ行列が行われ、その街道筋(東海道、中山道)は「茶壺道中」と呼ばれた。 |
