There are explanations why it came to be called Furoshiki, including one which indicates it came from the fact that, in the end of the Muromachi period, Daimyo (feudal lord), at the time of bathing, undressed on a Hiratsutsumi spread out and wrapped his clothes with it, or wiped his feet with it, but it is uncertain. |
