In the 9th century the site became a place of joint Shinto and Buddhist Shugendo and a Shogun Jizo statue representing Atago Daigongen was enshrined in the main hall while Tarobo, the Tengu goblin of Mt. Atago, was enshrined in the Oku-no-in (the present-day Wakamiya). |
9世紀には神仏習合の修験道の道場となっており、本殿に愛宕大権現の本地仏である勝軍地蔵、奥の院(現在の若宮)に愛宕山の天狗の太郎坊を祀っていた。 |
